Overnight & Weekend Survivors Advocate

RACES (Rape, Advocacy, Counseling, Education Services) seeks a compassionate person to advocate on behalf of sexual assault survivors ages 4 through adult in local hospital emergency rooms, and to offer crisis intervention to their family members. Applicants must have at least six months of paid or volunteer experience in a social service setting, use of a personal cell phone, reliable transportation, and ability to arrive at Urbana hospitals within 45 minutes. This is a part-time, stipend position, and the advocate gets paid whether they are called to the hospital or not.

On-call shifts for Night/Weekend (N/W) Medical Advocacy run from 6:00pm-8:00am Mondays-through Fridays, and round the clock Saturdays and Sundays. Each Medical Advocate is responsible for covering 50% of the required shifts as either primary or back-up. Medical Advocates are free to go about their daily lives while on-call, with the understanding that they must be able to leave immediately for the hospital upon receiving a call.
