Health Educator - Generalist

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) is seeking a Health Educator for Clinical Fitness specializing in Fitness, Illness Prevention and general health issues for the Health Education Unit of McKinley Health Center. As part of the student health center, the unit provides a wide variety of wellness promotion, health education, fitness testing, and sports injury evaluation/treatment for students at UIUC. The Health Educator works with a team of educators within the Health Education Unit to promote a campus environment that supports healthy lifestyle behaviors.

The Health Educator position works with many units, individuals and groups across campus and within the community to bring awareness to fitness and athletic injuries; plan, implement and evaluate outreach programs; provide in-service education for McKinley staff regarding athletic injuries, fitness, chronic illnesses, obesity treatment and prevention techniques through facilitation of health and wellness programs. Development, implementation and evaluation of educational programs by needs assessment for exercise physiology, general fitness, athletic/musculoskeletal injury, self-care and substance abuse. The role is also responsible for the supervision and direction of graduate assistants, student interns and other staff and document records for patients seen, programs presented and work in progress. The Health Educator will facilitate programs and campus-wide events that are designed to enhance healthy lifestyle practices among UIUC students and their families. A Master's Degree in Exercise Physiology, Sports Medicine, Master of Public Health or health related field is required. Certification in one or more of the following is desirable: ACSM Health and Fitness Instructor, ACSM Exercise Specialist. We are also interested in candidates with basic knowledge and skills in computer technology. An ideal candidate will have experience supervising students and coordinating fitness, health, and wellness programs. Must have the ability to conduct literature search, have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

This is a 100%, twelve month appointment, renewable annually with a comprehensive package of University benefits.

Salary is competitive. Position requires Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. To 5:00 p.m. Starting date is negotiable after closing.
